What if our civilization is more advanced than we know?
Are smart phones really humanity’s most significant innovation since the moon landings? Or can something else explain why the bold visions of the 20th century–fusion power, genetic enhancements, artificial intelligence, cures for common disease, extended human life, and a host of other world-changing advances–have remained beyond our grasp? Why has the high-tech future that seemed imminent in the 1960’s failed to arrive?
Perhaps it did arrive…but only for a select few.
Particle physicist Jon Grady is ecstatic when his team achieves what they’ve been working toward for years: a device that can reflect gravity. Their research will revolutionize the field of physics–the crowning achievement of a career. Grady expects widespread acclaim for his entire team. The Nobel. Instead, his lab is locked down by a shadowy organization whose mission is to prevent at all costs the social upheaval sudden technological advances bring. This Bureau of Technology Control uses the advanced technologies they have harvested over the decades to fulfill their mission.
They are living in our future.
Presented with the opportunity to join the BTC and improve his own technology in secret, Grady balks, and is instead thrown into a nightmarish high-tech prison built to hold rebellious geniuses like himself. With so many great intellects confined together, can Grady and his fellow prisoners conceive of a way to usher humanity out of its artificial dark age?
And when they do, is it possible to defeat an enemy that wields a technological advantage half a century in the making?

@Beta something is wrong on your end!!
FYI, I have processed this file with 3 programs. MP3Val (checks general mp3 integrity); MP3QalityModifier to transcode it to 32khz for my mp3 player; and MP3DirectCut to split the file into real chapters (all 36 chapters are present).
Again, thanks to Afforess

Why do you split the damn mps files into chapters??? It’s uneccessary in this day and age, and allows for possible errors. Whether you think it or not, those “chapter” spliiting programs all have issues (cutting off early, etc) so why use them??? EVERY damn mp3 player/phone/tablet/etc REMEMBERS your place in audiobooks, there is no need to split it up into so many damn files. Just ridiculous.
Mp3QualityModifier??? What kind of “well-renowned” program is that??? NEver heard of it, and I have converted over 2000 Audible tracks. Use dBpoweramp and you could have these perfectly ripped/converted/and transcoded in less than 10 minutes. No need for all the faulty programs & rubbish wasting time, when you the prgorams will often just screw it up.
KEEP files INTACT!!! Splitting is uneccessary…this is NOT 2007 anymore brah.

LEWL - Sure, I BET you bought the book lol

@Bobby Jon. I do with the files what I wish for MY USE and do not care about or ask for your opinions. My post was just to indicate to to other potential downloaders that the file is NOT CORRUPT. The list of software that I use was provided just to indicate the several mp3 utilities found no problems with this audio book.
Did you ever get distracted and leave a 20 or 30 hour book playing? Or maybe fall asleep, or perhaps have your kids mess with the player. How long to get back to were you last followed the story? That alone is reason to split audio books into chapters. Furthermore, I said real chapters. That means the files are split at audio chapter announcements (where there is always silence before the announcement, making your comment about “cutting off early, etc” irrelevent. As far as your comment about “so many damn files”, well all my players all have the ability to create and use directories. That keeps the book files very manageable. You obviously have know knowledge of the utilities I use. I will just say this, they are all well established and reputable programs used by thousands of people and they are free. FYI, Mp3QualityModifier is merely a front end for the well respected LAME encoder (and very likely the same encoder used in dBpoweramp). Finally, many people prefer chapter split books for the reasons I gave above, and I have uploaded (only) hundreds of split books to sites where other users comment on quality - and I have *never* had any complaints.
Regarding you comment to LEWL. Did you PAY FOR YOUR COPY OF dBpoweramp?. Yeah, I’ll bet you did. You are pirating books, so I’m sure you also pirate software. Reply or not, I am done with you.

I finished downloading and it works just fine.
So please disregard bobby jon’s ranting, he seems to stupid to realize that this audiobook is a SINGLE file and it is NOT uploaded by Zero Day…
Thank you Afforess!

@ Zero Day - How long to get back to were you last followed the story?
About a min I often fall asleep listing to audiobooks.
Most players have a scrub bar, aka timeline, you just click and play until you find a bit you heard, then using common sense and the 50%rule you narrow it down in a few seconds, to where you left off.
Bobby Jon is correct, don’t mess with the files.
