The human, Louis Wu; the puppeteer known as the Hindmost; Acolyte, son of the Kzin called Chmeee… legendary beings brought together once again in the defense of the Ringworld.

there are even more than just 3! plus all the ‘fleet of worlds’ novels taking place in the puppeteers’ worlds. I remember going through some dark times in my life and reading about how Louis meet Nessus the first time and what Louis was going through (on the wire - i was also on the wire so to speak) and it really helped me out.

@sngforyouandme - Gods yes. Mid 1980’s and dumped by the love of my life (at that time!). In engineers read of Wu thinking something like:-
I’m going to have to get over this at some time - might as well be now”. It did turn me around - in that I was now facing in the right direction - so I could take steps one at a time to recover. I’ve used it many times since.

I’m suppressed that Larry Niven is not more recognized than he is. His stories are so good.

I read the first Ringworld book decades ago. And I really enjoyed his collaborations with Pournelle.

He actually did a FOURTH - “Ringworlds Children” too
The “Fleet of Worlds” books are pitifully poor. You can tell the brief times Niven did the writing. Not very often. They enraged me by messing about with the puppeteers being conquered by some quickly evolving starfish. Too stupid for words. Not something Niven is known for. The last one they did together I gave up reading and didn’t finish. Tedious “wimmin” captains - again, not a Niven thing
