Who were the first humans to inhabit North America? According to the now familiar story, mammal hunters entered the continent some 12,000 years ago via a land bridge that spanned the Bering Sea. Distinctive stone tools belonging to the Clovis culture established the presence of these early New World people. But are the Clovis tools Asian in origin? Drawing from original archaeological analysis, paleoclimatic research, and genetic studies, noted archaeologists Dennis J. Stanford and Bruce A. Bradley challenge the old narrative and, in the process, counter traditional—and often subjective—approaches to archaeological testing for historical relatedness. The authors apply rigorous scholarship to a hypothesis that places the technological antecedents of Clovis in Europe and posits that the first Americans crossed the Atlantic by boat and arrived earlier than previously thought. Supplying archaeological and oceanographic evidence to support this assertion, the book dismantles the old paradigm while persuasively linking Clovis technology with the culture of the Solutrean people who occupied France and Spain more than 20,000 years ago.

rmoor, I am stoked. I’ve had my eye on this book for a long time. thanks

Recent genetic testing and research refutes the author’s theory of a European origin for the Clovis culture, leaving no room for ambiguity.

Not written for the average reader, very journally and dry.
Also they are completely wrong.

What absolute rubbish JustRandy is spouting. Just made something up in his head and wrote it out. Crazy sod.

Good quality upload.
Rubbish science! There is availability no argument or evidence for a trans-Atlantic mezolitic migration, but loads of proof for a Beringian one.

Thanks for the uploud, was interested in this volume after reading an article and the following conversation amongst anthropologist about how the science in this book is basically bogus now. The author of the book chimed in on the comment section repeatedly. But Sorry fade4, JustRandy and others are not just making it up. Its REAL SCIENCE that kind of debunked this theory. Its important to note, even the authors dont actually believe its some sort of of proven fact, they just are still open to the possibility. Alot of it comes down to the sketchy history of the artifacts that led to the idea in the first place.

Ideologues reject the possible Solutrean origin of haplogroup X in Clovis people but do not reject the lesser known pan-Eurasian origins theory. The Solutrean Hypothesis is neither proven nor disproven by DNA evidence, although the DNA evidence doesn’t help it much. It’s mainly an archeological theory. It hasn’t credibly been refuted. See Primtech letter to Guardian Editors by Bruce Bradley.
