Affliction (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #22) - Laurell K. Hamilton

Some zombies are raised. Others must be put down. Just ask Anita Blake.
Before now, she would have considered them merely off-putting, never dangerous. Before now, she had never heard of any of them causing human beings to perish in agony. But that’s all changed.
Micah’s estranged father lies dying, rotting away inside from some strange ailment that has his doctors whispering about “zombie disease.”
Anita makes her living off of zombies—but these aren’t the kind she knows so well. These creatures hunt in daylight, and are as fast and strong as vampires. If they bite you, you become just like them. And round and round it goes…
Where will it stop?
Even Anita Blake doesn’t know.

This will be soooo bad, I can feel it in my bones. Yet… I can’t stop myself… Must. Know. What. Happens.
Damn you, LKH! *shakes fist in the air*

I don’t understand you people. If you dont like the books dont fucking read them. If you dont want sex in books read young adult books

its not about ’sex’ its that she has sex with everything with and without a pulse. Otherwise I like the stories, its just too much sex sometimes, and I have to fast forward thru it, or skip pages because it brings no relevance to the story. Every single story doesn’t need to be an orgy. I haven’t heard/read this one yet, but I doubt the author will have changed her ways. We’ll see..

Unfortunately.. This was one of her worst “good” books so far. She usually does a long good book with Edward, and the book after that a short one with waaay too much sex. Just look at the books order and you’ll notice this. These short books are kind of “fillers” in between the good books. I wished she would take this book into a new storyline, perhaps with demons, fae or elves. Anything other than the same old bad guy vampire.
And was someone else really pissed off that she NEVER uses her innate ability with the DEAD until the last fking moment? I mean, she calls herself a zombie expert, and yet she treats the case like she knows nothing about necromancy. Its so stupid and obvious all the way through the book and then you come to an abrupt and stupid end like that with a cheesy bad guy scream. Oh god, I actually shook my head. Were is the tension, story and authentic bad guys from Obsidian Butterfly or Bloody Bones?
I’m so sad that this is actually a LKH book..

Not sure about this one yet either, but the last 3-4 books have not been as bad as they were getting. I understand that it can be a little too much sometimes but its not real life, lol. I find myself rolling my eyes a lot listening to these books… but I’ve come to expect and love it lol. I guess sometimes I just get annoyed when people complain constantly that they dont like the books and spoil the fun for everyone else… I just feel like if you dont like a book then dont listen/read. I tend to forget that I’m a lot more open minded than many people. Even these days (which is surprising to me.) Yes I agree that they could do with less sex. But I also agree that there are many people who enjoy it, so, if you’re able to fast forward/skip pages, then do it. Let the people who enjoy it read it, and you can just skip it. It’s really not that big of a deal.

Another thing is that LKH feels a need to put arguments throughout all of her books. Its either arguments or sex. It gets extremely exhausting after a while and you have to read through them because of a potential plot clue in there somewhere of “whore, furrbanger etc etc etc etc.” I hoped there wouldn’t be so much of it since Richard wasn’t in the book, but alas, LKH really loves to argue..
And the way she treats the atheist in the book just shows how narrow minded the author really is. When the doctor says he doesn’t believe in god and Anita replies, “I’m so sorry for you.”
I mean wow.. and then the “angel scene” which the atheist suddenly is believing in miracles and such, wow.. That was incredibly offensive.
Usually any Anita Blake book with Edward in it is good, but this one feels more like she put him in there because the fans like Edward. Really… I’m going to STOP reading her books from now on and just read the conclusions on wiki, takes less time and is about the same deep storyline.
Expecting another awesome book from the Dresden Files instead, all hail Jim Butcher, the king of fantasy novels and extremely hot, but most of all RARE, sex scenes and awesome plots and characters.

I don’t think it’s a matter of liking or not liking them (And “not liking them that much anymore automatically granting me a = GTFO, Shut up and listen/read something else”). I used to love the Anita books, but am rather “meh” about them now. Even though I still go back and read/listen to the first, say, 10 books every now and then.
I dunno. I don’t take books so seriously as to get miffed and not be able to make fun over something I might like that’s nonsensical as of late. Nevermind making fun of myself for liking them.

I have listened to this book and I liked it along with all the other books in this series. I would like to read about how Antia and Edward/Ted met and about why he trained her. I think it would be an interesting read and or listen too.

Thank you! I really do enjoy these books as audio books so much more than reading them. Just wanted to let you know that it’s really appreciated that you take the time to do this.
