Publisher’s Summary
The Great Bear will descend from the skies and with his paw lash at the ocean. He will devour all the works of Man. Then he will sleep for 10,000 years, and the breath of his sleep will be death.
The prophecy had come true. The world spun. Tidal waves lashed the planet, and a new ice age dawned. The few survivors of a once-great empire struggled to rebuild, to hold their ground against the rising barbarian tide. Then two moons appeared in the skies, unleashing a terrible evil that threatened not only the new empire but the survival of the world itself.

Could have sworn we already had this here on ABB, but nope, you’re right. Well done on spotting the omission and thanks for sharing! I *think* my Gemmell collection is complete now.

Hi,
your .nfo states that the source is audible (.aa/.aax) one channel 32kBps AAC.
It further states that you reencoded that with inAudible to two channels 32 kBps AAC (Fraunhofer codec).
I wonder 1) why two channel output if the source is one channel and 2) why you reencode at all, if the target bitrate is the same as the source bitrate?
Picking one channel output instead of two would slightly improve the audible quality of your encode.
More importantly tho, instead of a Fraunhofer reencode, Inaudibles lossless “truedecrypt” option would improve the audible quality a lot while resulting in a M4B of about the same size. Decrypting instead of reencodeing would be faster on your end too. (And it also always would account for the no. of channels).
Cheers!
Cheers!

Horstman, I did not understand any of the technical questions you stated above. I haven’t really messed with any of the settings on the inAudible software. Quite frankly, it’s not entirely clear to me if you’re complaining or asking a question. If you’re complaining, please see my standard disclaimer. If you’re asking a technical question, well you’re going to have to ask someone else.

Neiter - I am suggesting. Suggesting to switch from reencoding with inaudible to decrypting with inaudible. Suggesting to get a better sounding result for (in this case) the same file size. :)
Would you at least consider trying the “true decrypt” option of Inaudible, please?
It’s not about ‘messing with the settings’, it’s about consciously setting them. I’m trying to help you here (and only by proxy myself along with all the other ABB users) to get a better result with minimal effort.
It most likely would even speed things up for you!

Just did a spot check listen of this file. It sounds fine to me. This is an audio file of one dude reading a book. It’s not the philharmonic orchestra. I can now refer you to my standard disclaimer with complete confidence.

Me: “I suggest to switch to an appropriate gear - will drive/sound better and you’ll get there faster. At least give it a try?”
You: “Nah, fine with the gear that was set as I bought the car. Not worth the effort - it drives after all, doesn’t it?”
I still don’t get why you stick to settings like you chose them deliberately, while they were just the default settings. Why you decline to even bother trying… https://i.imgur.com/hvwWGfH.jpg
As stated, my sole intention was to help you get a better result with no tradeoff, for the sake of all audiobook fans. I thought that to be a win-win.
Sorry if that bothered you, I won’t bug you here any more. Feel free to PM me in the forum if you have any questions,
cheers!

If you expect me to feel bad for yanking you up short for nitpicking my work, you have another think coming. Your analogy would be more accurate if it portrayed you complaining about how I had the AC adjusted in the car you didn’t buy. If you read my standard disclaimer and thought I would react WELL to essentially useless criticism you really should reexamine your reading comprehension and people skills. I’m delighted to hear that you will no longer comment on my books.

You can TrueDecrtpt with inAudible at 64K with little difference in file size from a 32k rip with Fraunhofer. Or, TrueDecript at 32k and still get a 64k sound. That’s all Horstman is saying. He’s offering advice not criticism. If it is only one channel, which is mono, keep it that way. Making a mono file in two channels (stereo) is pretty useless and does distort the sound quality for many audiophiles.

As I’ve stated. I’ve spot checked the file. With head phones and without for about 10 minutes. It sounds fine. If you have a specific complaint about sound quality, you may have a reason to come here and bitch. You don’t.
