To compare that description to fascism is to wholly miscomprehend fascism, evidence of a dangerous trend.
Appreciate the good and the bad in history. To only emphasise the bad and completely obscure the good, is to embrace stupidity in all its depressing forms. To commit a species of cultural suicide. To discard tradition without even understanding it. Fools belittling attainments of genius which they could never dream of reaching.
We should fully recognise the excellence of the achievements of Western Civilisation. Which is not to preclude a knowledge of the bad actors of the past, from all cultural backgrounds.
It’s not an issue of Left or Right.
Athens, Jerusalem and Rome gave us the modern world. It’s just and right to attribute our sources. Know where you came from and how you got here. Honour the past by truly knowing it.
