release in the proper format m4b which was designed specifically by apple for audiobooks there is a world of difference between m4a and m4b

A couple of Q’s though but not to seem unappreciated, when you say you formatted them to 256kb, what was the original bitrate? as making them a higher bitrate doesn’t improve quality, it just makes the size bigger, and why M4A and not M4B, as M4A is for apple audio but M4B is the audiobook standard which can contain a lot more info about the audiobooks.

so firstly, about the format. not everyone uses apple devices, m4a is more universal. if you want a large m4b file for all series, you can achieve it by using a very simple app on Mac called audiobookbinder.
and on the quality. some were 256kb, some were lower bitrate. but my point of reformatting them is to get new files, so I could edit the cover, cast and writer info for some files are old (not editable, etc). if you take a look at my channel to check other files you will know.

The important thing here is that with m4b you can bookmark which is important when you consider not everyone can listen to a full episode, with m4a your screwed because you have to guess where your at when you come back to listen to it again, making it a real pain for most people who need to bookmark so they can just come straight back to the story.
m4a it doesn’t matter at all. m4a was created by apple for music releases on iTunes, there is no bookmark system because it doesn’t need it, hence why it doesn’t matter. releasing it the way you have,means those that need to bookmark cannot. Its not just a simple case that those who want to, can simply re encode into m4b.

@sylvantos any decent player or app should be able to bookmark regardless of the format. it’s not stored in the media file anyway
@tacarino converting from lower to higher bitrate is literally useless and just give you bigger file size. you could take the old audio and put it in a mp4 wrapper (m4a) without re-encoding (which ain’t good with lossy codecs).
i still prefer plain old MP3s for backwards compatibility with a billion old MP3 players.
