Starts off rapey and incesty and goes on to talk about how lady parts get all buttery when they’re about to be raped. As a longtime fan of this series it’s very disappointing, im just going to pretend this doesn’t exist.

Not his first rapey book, and it wont be his last. I always found that his books purposely added those scenes to just stir sh*t up. It doesn’t add a whole lot, not enough to justify it. I gave up after the first original series. His writing isn’t that smooth, lots of why would you do that moments or that made absolutely no sense moments or this added nothing but frustration to the book.

Well, “Embers” were rapey, but it was a plot point (and “Embers” were quite dark as a whole). And rape was never presented as something OK there, so I’m not sure why you’re complaining (what’s next? A book where no one is killed?).
The original Mageborn was a bit rapey in the first novel - but again, that seriously amped up the drama of the romantic storyline. Also, it served as a necessary illustration of the definition of rape (the hero thought that “nothing happened”, because he stopped the rapist in time; the lass, who lost consciousness, didn’t know that - and even if she did, it wouldn’t have mattered, because psychological damage was already done at that point). And again, the rapist was an utter bastard and a bad guy.
That said, i’m not sure why this scene is in *this* book. Maybe to just point out what a bastard Tyrion is still (which is an important plot point)? Also, it ties up with what he does in the last book with the queen. Though i’m still unclear on how he was doing this.
