Life in the settlement of Hope kept getting better by the day. Iris’s talent with plants secured our food stores, and the boys from Loch Raven our safety. All we needed to worry about was improving our systems, like running water.

Despite all this, I refused to let it bring me down. I made sure to keep my promise to take each of my girlfriends on a date, a real date. No matter what, even with war looming over our heads, I made sure to keep love and happiness alive. Those were two things that had to be preserved at any cost.
