Why is this marked as Fantasy, Sci-Fi?
From reading the intro it comes of more as something that should be listed as Paranormal!?
Is the setting either in a made up fantasy world or is it in a future high tech world equivalent to our reality? Or is it just a contemporary paranormal setting based on our reality?

holy hell!
i read this maybe ~15 years ago - great series…
Its set in our world/time - Vatican fighting a shadow crusade/extermination campaign against Vamps for hundreds of years in secret- with some great storytelling/characters and rather unusual vampires ;)
gonna see if it still holds up…
