Christians are the world’s most widely persecuted religious group, according to studies by the Pew Research Center, Newsweek, and the Economist, among others .
A woman is caught with a Bible and publicly shot to death. An elderly priest is abducted and never seen again. Three buses full of students and teachers are struck by roadside bombs. These are not casualties of a war. These are Christian believers being persecuted for their faith in the twenty-first century.
Many Americans do not understand that Christians today are victims in many parts of the world. Even many Western Christians, who worship and pray without fear of violent repercussions, are unaware that so many followers of Christ live under governments and among people who are often openly hostile to their faith. They think martyrdom became a rarity long ago.
Persecuted soundly refutes these assumptions. This book offers a glimpse at the modern-day life of Christians worldwide, recounting the ongoing attacks that rarely make international headlines.
As Western Christians pray for the future of Christ’s church, it is vital that they understand a large part of the world’s Christian believers live in danger. Persecuted gives documented accounts of the persecution of Christians in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and former Soviet nations. It contains vivid stories of men and women who suffer abuse because of their faith in Jesus Christ, and tells of their perseverance and courage..
Persecuted is far more than a thorough and moving study of this global pattern of violence–it is a cry for freedom and a call to action.

Catholics and protestants kill each other; chrisians and muslims kill each other; muslims and buddhists kill each other; muslims and jews kill each other. Every group has extremists who gleefully persecute and murder, and being “the most widely persecuted” is only a product of being the most populous, globally dominant of the lot.

howlafist it’s way more then that! If you don’t see it there is probably no reason to try and fill you in. It’s all part of the woke agenda that is being pushed down American’s throats. Just look at what is expectable in todays schools. If a child wears a Christian shirt or speaks about Christianity they will get in trouble. It makes the other religious practices feel violated buts is fine to do it with any other religion. No the agenda is clear. Also where do you live that has all this religious killing???

Tokyo ghost
I was reading your comment up until you said woke right at that point you lost all credibility and your point is completely lost. Saying woke tags you as a right-wing nut case with a partisan viewpoint that shuts down all meaningful discussions but your own. You woke warriors are a major reason Christians are opressed.

Blows my mind that in the 21st century grown adults still believe in a sky wizard.

The very first line of the write-up marks this book as nonsense, cherry-picking and outright lying about the very reports they cite. Here are the actual stats:
As of 2018: Christians face harassment in 145 countries, Muslims face harassment in 159 countries, and Jews face harassment in 91 countries. Respectively: Christians account for 31% of the world’s population, Muslims account for 24%, and Jews account for 0.2%.
So just on the numbers, Muslims face more persecution, but if you adjust for how small the Jewish population is, they face far more persecution than either of the other two. Christianity is also the largest religion in the world, dominant in discourse and politics in the world’s largest super-power, and for good or ill, influencing policy around the world - witness the influence of evangelical Christianity in Uganda, for example, in that country’s terrible persecution of LGBT people.
Christianity and Christian empires dominated the world for almost 500 years, and only in the last 100 years or so there has been some push to allow other beliefs some space to exist. Christians are experiencing that loss of primacy as persecution, but all it is is a normalization and increasing equality. So get over it. Live and let live. Seriously.

Thx, rmoor. The denial of people’s freedom of conscience & religious practice, and persecution on that basis, represents a grave violation of their human rights.
The present book’s (publ 2013) findings are lent weight by the International Society for Human Rights. In Sep 2009, ISHR chairman, Martin Lessenthin, issued a report estimating that 80% of acts of religious persecution around the world were aimed at Christians. (Vallely, Paul (28 Jul 2014) “Christians: The world’s most persecuted people”. Independent - & - Sherwood, Harriet (13 Oct 2015) “Christianity under global threat due to persecution, says report” The Guardian.)

LOLLLL!!!!
“We went around the world, committing genocide, enslaving millions, kidnapping and reeducating children, and generally destroying every culture we came across while forcing our own on you and now you ungrateful darkies don’t want to follow the zombie-blood-drinking-and-zombie-flesh-eating religion we forced on you?? How dare you!?!?”
There’s NOTHING funnier than white grievance, these people just can’t stop and it keeps getting more hilarious every year…. No matter what, THEY ARE THE VICTIMS, this is how they keep white men angry and ignorant and those white guys keep falling for it, and keep getting NOTHING out of it except being ostracised and avoided by loved ones. LOL!!!
June 18th, 2023
Well, the point is that the persecution occurs largely in parts of Africa, Middle East, Asia - many disadvantaged parts of the world. Not the West (at least not since fall of ideological tyrannies). The people who are the victims of terrible persecution are not white. As for religion, Christianity, Islam & Judaism are all Middle Eastern in origin. Christianity & Islam continue to grow, w Islam achieving even greater rates of increase. So, no global decline for either.

Christian oppression in the USA? Where? Examples. Verifiable examples. Someone challenging your beliefs or even making fun of them does not qualify as oppression even if your widdle feelings were hurt.
Oppression would be like being told,’Sorry Christian, but we don’t hire your kind here’ & Sorry Christian, you need to take your sick child over to county - this hospital does not admit your kind’.
If it was up to me I would end tax exempt status for these criminal mega-churches. When the pastor lives in a huge mansion, has loads of cars & a jet - they are just like the Pope. If you want to know who is corrupt, look for who don’t pay taxes - there’s your criminal & criminal organization.
.
As for the claim of being founded as a christian nation it’s BS.
.
“The United States was not founded on Christian principles. Our country was formed in the second half of the 1700s during an era known as the period of Enlightenment. At this time, the philosophy that guided many of our Founding Fathers was known as deism. Among the people who called themselves deists were Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. To a large extent, they rejected the fundamental, puritanical Christian beliefs of the 1600s that resulted in things like the Salem witch hunt. Though they clearly believed in God, it was a remote God not necessarily concerned with the day-to-day activities of man. For the most part they did not practice organized Christianity, believing most of the Bible’s stories of miracles and supernatural events to be myths. The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution are cited as the prime examples of documents created with their Enlightenment point of view.”

Most of the founding fathers, if they could see the US now, would hate MAGA & the white hijacked Woke. They’d be calling for the hangman or firing squad.

Wrong on almost every ass-ertion there, ap. You’re pulling a “WhataboutAmerica?!” - when the work specifically concerns global persecution. Inclusive of all those places you don’t know or care about, because your entire world is “America!”
The issue of tax-exempt status is to facilitate charitable activities. That encompasses global, earthquake, famine & poor relief; all the hospitals, libraries & schools that were created & maintained. Where there is corruption, that tax-exempt status can be lost, and prosecutions pursued.
Some of the Founding Fathers were deists; not many or most - that is a modern myth.
The Pope is an official of the Church, the Pope does not own the Church, “loads of cars or a jet.”
“look for who don’t pay taxes - there’s your criminal & criminal organization” - That would mean that all charities are criminal organisations? You ought to bring whatever evidence you have to your local police.
As to America’s founding and Christianity, the Revolutionary movement was facilitated & enabled by the networks created & established during a period known as the First Great Awakening (betw 1730s & 1770s). Otherwise, the discrete Thirteen Colonies had no strong connections or bonds. The Revival ethos consolidated the appeal of the ideals of liberty, and its ministers & the members of the new evangelical faiths strongly supported the Revolution.

Lets see, christians open an office in AFRICA, Soon after gays are being executed, women no longer have control of their own bodies and christian peds are being protected.
Persecuted? NO! we are more accurately defending ourselves.
Why are christians being murdered, assaulted and attacked, gosh, I wonder. LOL
This will be an interesting read.
June 19th, 2023
Oy. It’s scarcely the case that injustice does not exist in a hypothetical location, then people hear about the Gospel’s message of charity, love, equality, compassion, forgiveness & hope - then all of a sudden they’re transformed into evil automatons. Evil, abuse, paedophilia, corruption - these have always existed, everywhere.
They existed before Judeo-Christianity & Islam. Under atheistic state ideologies, gay people were persecuted (incl in Cuban concentration camps); paedophilia has always existed within the institution of the family. Human beings are flawed, & our institutions reflect these flaws, writ large. The state is the largest example of this.
If, as you say, Christian families & children “are being murdered, assaulted & attacked” simply because “you’re defending yourself” from them, that same sleazy rationale has always been deployed - by the Chinese regime & their “measures” against Uyghur Muslims; the Turks against Christian Armenians; Cuban socialists against gays & those who were different; national socialists against Jews, Slavs & Polish Catholics; Muslims against gays & others; Burmese Buddhists against Rohingya Muslims; etc. etc.
Yours is the old excuse for genocide.

Oh come on be honest Caesar. Christians love being oppressed it is one of the best ways into heaven. They revel in knowing that dying for a cause is the best thing ever. Being the oppressed brings joy to the hearts of Christens. What sets them off is when you say that they too can oppress others. Yet I guess you have the quick and easy out. A few prayers and boom all is forgiven. Everyone oppresses others it is human nature. You have to try your best not to let that happen in any way shape or form. The problem I see is that Christians are having such joy in being oppressed that they blindly continue to press others and still feel holy.
June 20th, 2023
Martyrdom is a difficult road. We don’t all have it within us to be a Maximilian Kolbe, volunteering to starve to death in the place of another human being at Auschwitz; or to be a Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in confronting ideological evil.
Most families, Christian or non-Christian, just want to live in peace and raise their children. Expediently describing all 2.6 billion Christians as uniquely evil agents, who take joy in oppressing others; or mocking the suffering of ordinary people here, seems like a quick and easy out.
June 20th, 2023
I have sat and had tea with Muslims all over the world. Listened to Buddhist monks in many countries. Talked to Jews and learned from them. Had great conversations with Christians in Africa and Europe. The only problem I ever had is with white Christians in North America. Out of all the faiths I tried to learn from the white American Christians were the most judgemental and closed-minded humans I have ever met. Yes, oppression happens to all faiths. Yet it is white entitled American Christians that I think earn that oppression.
June 20th, 2023
Yeah, cluckers man, but in your 2 posts aren’t you yourself essentially judging all Christians globally by your perceived standard of N Amer Christians? The issue is with persecution of Christians on a global basis - this is not really an issue for N Amer Christians (other guy there has a problem with African Christians). As for those with whom you have a problem, I would say to them “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.” (Matthew 7:1-2)
The issue is with the measure & proportion of the judgment. I haven’t walked in the shoes of the person I seek to judge. I can’t know all.
June 20th, 2023
Can’t remember who said it but it was along the lines of..”Christianity, greatest religion ever founded, unfortunately no one has ever practiced it”. Many upset over what happened at Dodgers stadium because it is ok for catholics to be anti lgbtq but inadmissible for lgbtq to be anti catholic.
June 20th, 2023
That’s likely Chesterton’s ‘The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.’
June 20th, 2023
Here is my problem with NA Christians. They are more than willing to call out anyone that judges them. Yet they are unwilling to look at their behaviour. They love to take parts of the Bible that reinforce their points yet ignore anything in the Bible that does not make them feel justified in their interpretation. If Christians want respect they have to stand up against other Christians that don’t truly follow Christ’s words. I see lots of cherry-picking one or two lines of the Bible and then ignoring the overall message of love and respect that Christ tried to convey. The bad views of Christians come from the lack of Christians standing up against the people that misuse the bible for their gain. Try this thought experiment. If Christ was alive right now walking the world and talking to Christianity. What would he say? What would he say about you? Do you think he would be happy about the cherry-picking of the bible and his words? I am pretty sure he would be pissed off. I think Christ would be jailed and called the devil if he showed up in the USA.
June 20th, 2023
He certainly wouldn’t be happy with me, that’s for certain.
What you’re railing against there is hypocrisy, and hypocrisy is certainly not confined to North America. Indeed, we’re all hypocrites.
An example: many people attack others & assert their own unmatched integrity on devices actually produced in conditions of modern slave labour - encompassing enslaved, exploited & abused children specifically. This includes tens of thousands of children used in cobalt mines.
But people give more of a shyte about their Kultur Wars & boundless egos than enslaved kids. That stuff is just too far away. Jesus might have a word or two to say about that kind of thing. From prison.
If any of us - Christian & non-Christian alike - want respect, we must stand up against those who disrespect & hypocritically exploit others.

I agree with you Caesar. I am agnostic (don’t know don’t care). I have met many great people of faith. Yet I try not to judge choices. It is when people stand up and proclaim how perfect or great they are or how their faith is the only true way. I get upset. Humans have worshipped many things through the ages and there is just as much chance that I will meet Anubis and have my heart weighted against a feather as to meet Christ in the afterlife. Your faith is your own and I wish you the best as long as you cause no harm. I don’t judge anyone’s faith even the people of the past. Their faith was just as strong as your faith is to you. If you cause harm in the practice of your faith then I have issues with it. When I bring up my views I am told that people of the past were evil and wrong and their faith did not matter as they were wrong. I am sure they would also say the same thing to people today. Still Christ like Buddha had great ideas and great learning lessons. To bad no one listens. Be well and stay safe.
June 21st, 2023
The bad stuff you describe there is based in arrogance, right enough, against which humility is the effective antidote. I’m not always certain where I am on this great issue - the minutiae - but in my teens/20s I was extremely hostile to even the idea of religion. I knew it all back then.
Humans have always been ordered towards faith, true; I reckon the interpretive key is universal love, rather than power or submission, which is where error lies. Be well indeed.
