Still notorious, radical, and revolutionary 50 years later.
A survival guide from one of the greatest creative organizers of the 20th century - now with a new foreword by co-conspirator Lisa Fithian.
Throughout the 1960s and ’70s, Abbie Hoffman crisscrossed the country, ferreting out alternative ways of getting by in America - some illegal and all radical. Causing scandals with its advice on how to Survive!, Fight!, and Liberate! in the “prison that is Amerika”, Steal This Book is a revolutionary’s manual to running a guerilla movement, as well as getting free food, housing, transportation, medical care, and more.
This anniversary edition gives a new generation an insider’s view into the movements of the ’60s and ’70s. While many of the holes in the system that Abbie exposed have since been plugged, the spirit of revolution, the dedication to opposing injustice, and the passion of creative activism continue to inspire today.

The USA is one of the few countries less free now than it was fifty years ago (though Paul Crouch Jr.’s ‘Trump 2024′ reminds us how Evangelicals are still rabid to abridge American liberties even further).
This was a timely book when I first read it, and is likely to inflame the planters just as much again.

USA has 5% of the world’s population but 20% of the world’s prisoners. Incarceration Nation. The freedom they constantly chirp about is propaganda.

…are you including in that total all of the Uighur people & others who are incarcerated in the Chinese regime’s system of concentration camps? The ongoing genocide? The North Korean regime’s system of concentration camps? And all the other dystopic despotisms across the globe?
That would vastly expand the proportions.
Opposing injustice, indeed.

Thank you. I fully intend to download and ’steal’ the book.

You’re a disgrace to the community, Goooner.

Thanx so much for this : ) Down in a little shed, deep in the Aussie rainforest, I’d never heard of this guy or ever heard his story. Being from that era myself, I’ve fought my own ‘little’ revolution or two myself ; ) So lucky me huh? Now I’ve got the time to reflect on his journey, possibly gain some insights & catch up on it all - Brilliant <3

@caesar963: Good job, using the white man’s trick of saying “what about these guys??” to avoid having to answer for the violence and anger by european christians towards all other forms of life on this planet. No example you try to pull of “all brown people are bad” will EVER compare to the colonization and slavery by white european christians.
Notice how hard white people try to equate the atrocities of China to slavery and colonization. There’s ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON and the real reason why they keep bringing these things up is that CHINA BECAME THE WORLD LEADER WITHOUT SLAVERY, COLONIZATION OR WORLD WARS AND WHITE PEOPLE CAN’T TAKE IT!!
That’s right, China beat you at your own game and you just can’t stand it. So you’ve gotta pull this Uighur stuff, as though we’re all gonna believe that the white man suddenly cares about Muslims..?? Whatever man, we know what the truth is: you can’t stand that China beat you at your own game without using the level of violence that white people did, so now you’re gonna suddenly act like you’re against Islamophobia, slavery and war - but the rest of us have LONG KNOWN what the white man is really about, you can’t fool us by whitewashing your history and beliefs….

On your toxic obsession with colour & race: do only white people say “what about?!” In any event, the quote concerned world incarceration rates, so your “what about?” is inapplicable here.
Aren’t you “What about-ing?” the anger of europeans? Why is that? And you’re doing so in an extremely angry manner, in point of fact - so your charge is again self-refuting.
You are also raising “all brown people are bad” for some unaccountable reason.
Why are you desperately trying to distract from the Chinese regime’s system of concentration camps? The ongoing genocide? The North Korean regime’s system of concentration camps? And all the other dystopic despotisms across the globe? Do you imagine that all the victims are white?
Is the genocide of these groups not always an issue for all humanity, and for fundamental human rights norms, universally? Not for you though, because you support genocide by the mechanism of seeking to distract from it.
“the atrocities of China to slavery & colonization. There’s ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON…CHINA BECAME WORLD LEADER WITHOUT SLAVERY, COLONIZATION” - This is absolute political & historical illiteracy. China practices state slavery, with the denial of legal, civil, political, constitutional, liberal democratic & fundamental human rights. China has colonised Tibet, brutalises Hong Kong, supports the North Korean atrocity, threatens Taiwan & other sovereign neighbouring states. The regime practices genocide. Yet you support all of this.
“you just can’t stand it” - Well, I for one condemn genocide, state slavery, imperialism, invasions & gross human rights violations, which you manifestly seek to distract from. The genocide of human beings, which you sneeringly dismiss as “this Uighur stuff.” Sort yourself out. How do ignorant phckers like you end up on a book site? Mindlessly “thinking” that simply colour coding human beings wins you any kind of argument. Are you 12 years old? With a serious head injury?
“white man suddenly cares about Muslims” - Yeah, again, Islam is not a race, you see.
On colonisation & imperialism, my people were actually brutally colonised, dispossessed & murdered - not for a few yrs, but for eight centuries. This is not an abstract issue for us - it is core. So I won’t be taking any hypocritical lectures from an angry, historical ignoramus like yourself. You won’t be “colonising” any of my history or beliefs, you genocidal, slavery-supporting buffoon.

And writing in upper case makes you appear even more of a headcase. It indicates hysterical anger - even more white, if you like. Presenting yourself as Mr. Hate completes your profile as a hateful, isolated, vulnerable type.
