Syl was given a choice by Gramps when they died. Reincarnate as a regular person or embark on a daring experiment. Driven by a desire to honor Gramps and a sense of adventure, Syl chose the latter… only to awaken as a lowly slime.A farmed slime. The life of a farmed slime was cruel. Syl was constantly at the mercy of humans, a slime whose only purpose was to eat and recycle garbage. The threat of lethal core-destroying knives wielded by innocent children was a constant shadow. This was not the life Syl had envisioned. So, they made a daring escape to the wilderness!Along the way, Syl discovered the joy of eating everything they encountered. But the local monsters weren’t too thrilled with another creature moving in. Humans, dwarves, and elves see monsters as nothing but experience. Goblins see Syl as an exploitable resource. With the odds stacked against Syl, the question of their survival loomed large. Could they not just survive but thrive? Could they unlock new magic and integrate new slime cores? The future was a vast, uncharted territory, but Syl was unwavering in their determination to explore it, no matter the challenges that lay ahead. And the biggest question of all—Can Syl make any friends?

Okay, seen this one and just had to nab it. It is a requested book but, I do like my monster evolution LitRPG’s.
Never heard of the author before but, the two voice artists I have. Those two artists always do an excellent job in narration on any books I have heard them do in the past so, I expect nothing else but the same quality with this one.
Let me know what you all think of it.

Soft conversion. The singular they. Needs lgbtqiap+ tag.

The moment I an author use pronouns like ‘they’ to describe their characters I’m gonna skip it, not a fan of those tbh. Anyways appreciate for the work you put in BD

@knightart708 : Must suck having such a thin skin in daily life.. Keep safe, don’t bleed too much.
March 30th, 2025
@Moxtar why is it thin skin if I have my value and not let it be compromised? You should look at yourself, you already feel offended over my comments and try to attack me, get out of Reddit Lil bro

Hmmm….folks, fighting over the grammar used? If anyone has read any books by Fitzgerald (F. Scott), he often used the word ‘they’, ‘them’, or ‘their’ instead of the noun describing the sex of the person.
I do understand with today’s climate that, using the non-specific noun is a taboo that invokes other meanings but, in all honesty, it’s not quite right.
Do I know if this is a book that requires the LGBTQ+ in the tag or not from just reading the description? No and, until someone listens to it and finds out that it is needed, I won’t add it. I also can’t say it doesn’t need that tag and, if a person decides not to download the book due to the wording, then it is their choice.
No need to nip at each other over something like this. I’ll be upping more books shortly so that my usual troll can do that for you all. lol
Yes, I am upping more harem books soon and, know that they are lurking to try and rain down on ‘those books’ like an avenging angel of doom.
So, take it easy and relax and, remember to have a good one no matter what.

I dread lgbtqiap+ But if the writer is only calling the slime they, I believe that should be a pass. More lore allows slimes to reproduce asexually. Something that only has one sex should be a is or they, I would believe. I would argue forcing genders onto sexless beings like golems(completely a different book) would be more of a problem.
Well, I’ll skip.
March 31st, 2025
wow
March 31st, 2025
Using they/them for a single being, even a genderless slime, disrupts the natural flow of language. Since they is usually plural, readers have to keep reinterpreting the subject, which creates mental friction and makes sentences feel clunky. It forces an unnatural way of thinking that pulls focus from the actual content.
Tldr its annoying and confusing, dont do it.
March 31st, 2025
Ya’ll getting butthurt over the gender of a fictional sexless slime monster? Hilarious.
March 31st, 2025
@fall19 Actually singular they/them is built into our language and people use it all the time, even you do I would bet. Any time you don’t know the sex of someone you will use they or them by default. If a car cuts you off but you didn’t see the person driving? “They cut me off”
In fact one of the very comments here is complaining about singular they, then uses it to describe the author :D

honestly this book isn’t my typical style. Since it seems to have applied a sandpaper contraceptive to the rectum of a few posters, I think I’ll give it a go.
as always, thanks bd, you’re a legend

I’m about halfway through listening and so far there is no reason at all for any LGBT tag. Minor spoilers: The main character is reincarnated but has no memory of their previous life at all. About 3 hours in there’s a part like “Wait am I a girl or a boy? I can’t remember and since I’m a slime now I guess it doesn’t matter” Absolutely no other mention of anything related to gender or anything like that.
April 2nd, 2025
Always hilarious seeing the gender police getting upset about pronouns that they use daily in the same contextual situations but are deeply offended by the political connotations which they; themselves, are applying to what can only be defined as both grammatically and syntactically correct.
Yet, their complete lack of self-awareness compels them to expound their own fallacious bigotry, as if it were the highest truths known to man.
April 3rd, 2025
I finished the book. Don’t worry bigots, there’s nothing in this one to damage your delicate sensibilities. Looking forward to the next book, my only complaint is with the narration, there’s some weird editing where it sounds like words were changed or added later and it’s obvious the recording just doesn’t match.
April 4th, 2025
Loved this book, hate these people.
April 5th, 2025
@Pumpkin_M good on ya. I can’t understand why bigots get so bent out of shape over free stuff they’re not obligated to download. Yet feel the need to jump on the comments and start making demands to appease their fragile existence. This book is good enough to make me read the next one that comes out. Hopefully they edit the next one a bit better
April 14th, 2025
Lovely, a “they” character. I’m just gonna “nope” away from THAT bucket of cr@p.
Pumpkin_M, to answer to your point about if a driver cut you off and you don’t know if it’s a man or woman, sorry to burst your bubble, but normal people tend to NOT call the driver “they”. Very often it’s just “he cut me off” until and unless you know if it’s a woman. The only times that normal people refer to a vague entity as “they” is when it COULD be multiple people too.
April 15th, 2025
@Dktz1 Did you see my review? This is not a book with a “they” character so you’re safe.
April 15th, 2025
@Pumpkin_M sorry, but the summary of the book seems to disagree with you.
“This was not the life Syl had envisioned. So, they made a daring escape to the wilderness!Along the way, Syl discovered the joy of eating everything they encountered.”
Also, even if the slime thing decided he was a he all along after like (for example) 2 paragraphs or something, I don’t want to read a book by an author who seems to explicitly agree with using “they” to refer to a known single character, since how long before he creates another character who is a “they”? People who agree with him can enjoy his book all they want, but those who don’t (like me) just find it irritating to listen to, and I have better things to do with my time than humor his BS.
April 15th, 2025
The slime isn’t a he or a she, it’s an asexual fantasy monster. That’s why. However I did listen to the book and, unlike the summary, the book is narrated in a first person view of the slime. So it’s all “I did this” and “I did that” There’s a part like 3 hours in that’s something like “Am I a girl or a boy? I don’t think it matters, I’m just a slime” NO other mentions of the gender of the slime, since it literally doesn’t have one.
Don’t read ahead unless you are ok with spoilers….
The slime eventually gains the ability to shape shift into animals that it has eaten, and eventually even into people. When it’s pretending to be a person and starts interacting with people then it is referred to as she or he depending on the sex of the person it is mimicking .
April 15th, 2025
okay, I guess from a 1st person POV the slime’s “personal pronouns” wouldn’t come up, but you’re completely missing the larger point. The author rather clearly signaled that he agrees with using “they” to refer to a single entity, something that I disagree with and would be rather irritated to hear when put into practice.
If this story had been written as a 3rd person, the slime would have been referred to as “they” alot, but how long is it, or will it be, before the author introduces a sentient golem, eldritch god, or whatever, that is neither male nor female, and thus refers to it as “they”?
There are plenty of other free audiobooks that I can listen to where I don’t have to put up with that “they” garbage, whether used or just implied.
April 17th, 2025
The story isn’t LGBTQ btw, dive without worry. Great story.
April 17th, 2025
Please upload the next book(s) bd2232 🙏
April 17th, 2025
How pathetic it is to object to the use of the pronoun they to refer to a slime.. Hint: extremely pathetic. 🤣
April 18th, 2025
Amazing that such a small thing has mad a very interesting conversation on the topic. You’d think politics, religion or the like would have this kind of reaction and comments…nope LitRPG is the place to be.:)
I will be getting book 2 ASAP and will up it. If the first book did this….what do you think the 2nd book will do?! lol
BTW, if you try to tell me you have never said ‘they are over there’ instead of ‘he/she is over there’ then, I’m not buying what you are selling. In the English language, ‘they’ can be used as a noun instead of a pronoun or a gender specific noun aas what was once refered to (in high shcool) as a blanket noun. ‘They ran away’ in reference if he or she ran away. ‘They didn’t do it’….anyone watch any TV shows on TV with that one (70’s and 80’s did that alot….not relly the time they gave a crap about it either)? Mountain out of a mole hill here folks with it, mountain out of a mole hill.
Glad people like it and, if you don’t want to download it, I do put up a good amount of books and, you can always ask for a book. If I can get the book, I’ll up it.
Happy Easter to everyone.

April 19th, 2025
@bd2232 the book isn’t even LGBTQ lol. The MC is referred to as they in the synopsis because they lost their memory and aren’t sure what gender they are. Throughout the book they stick with a female body, and she/her pronouns. Even then, it’s never the focus lmao. I’ve seen a lot of books that do worse and just ram gender politics in your throat, but this is one of the rare few that never even mentions it.
April 19th, 2025
Also, yeah, looking forward to book 2 and onward!
This is a great series.
April 26th, 2025
Some of you are seriously ridiculous.
It’s an asexual slime. You don’t assign a gender to an amoeba, which would be the closest non-fantasy equivalent. “IT” would be appropriate to describe Syl, but that wouldn’t work.
@bd2232 thank you for all the uploads.
April 28th, 2025
Thank you
April 28th, 2025
Some of y’all are deranged. It’s a slime, slimes don’t have genitals
April 29th, 2025
(T.h.e.y. is an awesomely useful word!)
April 30th, 2025
btw “they” is an awesomely useful word both plurally and singularly: and all the gender-haters can rot in a bathroom-sized-prison for this and their various felonious hate-crimes plus vile excrement into your and mine lives. That begins a fair start, seeing how they ruin—with-intent, all of the peaceful lives of all people more intelligent and accepting than they ever-choose to be!
May 3rd, 2025
All of you, as in they slash them/he/she/animate object that I have no idea what you classify yourself as need to chill! Who cares? Obviously you, stop caring so much about what other people think about you or say about you and just live life. You guys are in a world where you can argue about stupid crap like this yet the wars that have been fought back and forth born from religion and sexism. I will never understand as a 30-year-old where some of you guys have the audacity to put one another down on stupid little sites like this. We’re all human, we are all using the same site, if you are here enjoying audiobooks that are the same as the rest of us, then why the hell are you attacking each other?
May 5th, 2025
@bd2232 sorry, but I have indeed NOT heard someone say “they” to refer to a known single person excluding by progressives. The only time I’ve heard it used to refer to a single person is when the subject is unknown and could have been multiple people.
May 15th, 2025
@Dktz1 If you’ve never used singular they then you’re using English incorrectly. Singular they is indeed a part of our language and everyone uses it without thinking about it. I’ve seen people use it unironically while arguing against it.
Now, we do have a gendered language as well, and I agree that using singular they were it normally doesn’t belong, such as for a nonbinary person, feels weird and off. Not arguing that at all.
It’s like we have a switch in our head and once we meet a person we assign a gender to them and trying to change it feels wrong. Once you meet them and their gender is assigned your brain goes “him” or “her” and locks it in.
May 28th, 2025
Pumpkin_M: we don’t assign people a gender, they are BORN either M or F. Nonbinary people don’t exist, only M and F.
June 3rd, 2025
@Pumpkin_M “It’s like we have a switch in our head and once we meet a person we assign a gender to them” - yeah, because when I meet a person, I will make an assumption, usually an easy one, about if that person is male or female (no, I don’t care how that person identifies), and then start referring to that person accordingly.
Progressives introducing the “more inclusive” they as a singular pronoun, unless I’m mistaken, only started in the 2010s. It wasn’t introduced naturally, which would be just people using it and language changing over time. No, people were and are attacked, sometimes even physically, for not using it.
So pardon me for not playing along with these changes in the rules.
July 4th, 2025
Pfffft, all the little redcapped uneducated dipshits that want this labeled as LGBT because their too stupid to understand how pronouns work.
Go cry about Democrats you fucking wankers.
July 4th, 2025
@dktz
You would be wrong. The singular they is hundreds of years old. You’re just not used to it due to modern culture. Another prime example of the uneducated.
July 4th, 2025
@tommy121
Oh goody, another uneducated simpleton.
You’re thinking of sex, not gender. Sex is assigned at birth. But sadly, even that is fundamentally beyond your idiotic ass.
Look into primary and secondary sexual charistics. intersex in terms of chromosomes, as well the all the sexual gradience that occurs due to hormones.
Sex isn’t binary. But you’re too stupid to look past whats in someone’s pants. So what the fuck can we expect from your idiotic pathetic dumbass self?
July 17th, 2025
@apin you mean something like Shakespeare using it, when he is notorious for his works not being readable in plain English, but having to be interpreted as questions and answers?
Pardon me if I don’t find that very convincing.
July 27th, 2025
weighing in here as a non native english speaker: You have one of the few languages that actually has a 3rd, gender neural, pronoun in the singular: “it”.
So why the F* don’t you use it???
It just makes it more difficult for the rest of us. Does it have any implicit negative connotation? If so, what? And even if so: own it. Solve the issue the easy way…
I have enough difficulty following certain plots, using “they” for a single character (even if it’s a swarm being) makes it needlessly more difficult. I would even prefer a new made up word to this bastardization!
July 27th, 2025
@fujele if you were to call someone an “it” people will refering to them as an object not a person. That being said yes english is a stupid language especially to learn. yes I’m glad I’m a native speaker of it. And yes people be crazy. Thanks for the point of view, I appreciate it.
December 29th, 2025
The comments here are better then the book , ty you all for the good read .
And yes , fk them lgtv+ people
January 4th, 2026
So funny, seeing all the wokies and transformers trying to gaslight people in using “they” as a singular pronoun, hilarious.
January 5th, 2026
@Tommy121
“: we don’t assign people a gender, they are BORN either M or F. Nonbinary people don’t exist, only M and F.”
This is absolutely incorrect. We do assign people gender in our heads. And even if you were talking about sex, we assign that too. We dont have some magical way to see the dna of everyone we meet, so obviously we are just assigning whatever sex and gender we think is likely or we are told. You probably believe you can magically tell, or that its just common sense or something, but that dumb. Because we are talking about a sentient slime. It probably doesn’t even have dna, and it definitely doesn’t have genitals. So obviously, they is the best word to use.

Forgot to rate. Good book, thank you @bd2232. The other books by this author are great as well, but I dont know if they have audiobook versions yet.
