David Baddiel would love there to be a God. He has spent a lot of time fantasising about how much better life would be if there actually was such a thing as a Superhero Dad who chased off Death. Unfortunately for him, there isn’t. Or at least, that is Baddiel’s view in this book, which argues that it is indeed the very intensity of his, and everyone else’s, desire for God to exist that proves His non-existence. Anything so deeply wished-for we will, considers Baddiel, make real. The admission of his own divine yearnings makes for a book that is more vulnerable – and more understanding of the value and power of religion – than most atheist polemics. Any adult who still thinks of our Creator as a “Superhero Dad” needs to grow up! Study the Bible and learn why you have the freedom to choose; the issues are far more complex.

@chrisxiii - EXACTLY! Well spoken! The fact that some people think that there can be morality without the presence of God and Jesus is laughable. That some people can look at the perfection and precision of Creation without a Creator is pure narcissism. Precision can NEVER emerge from chaos without a guiding hand. EVER.

As Dr. Stephen Elliott - quondam bishop of Georgia - reminds us, more African Americans were brought to Jesus by being enslaved in the United States than were ever converted by over a century of missionary work in Africa.
Thank you for the post daenigma (though I realize Baddiel’s book has nothing to do with Christianity).

That’s the stupidest most racist and ignorant thing that I have ever heard someone spout! What is Mr.Elliot a doctor or proctology? Because he can sure speak out of his ass. The Gospel and knowledge of Jesus and Christianity was spread throughout Africa since the 4th century AD! That is way before the US was even a thing! There were some like today that are cut off from civilization but missionaries from the churches in Alexandria spread the word throughout the he continent. The Bible even says that it was spread throughout the known world in the second century AD and Africa was just about the most know place in the ancient world since it’s the oldest inhabited place there is. This is right up there with “desegregation was the worst thing to happen to black schools” its crap like this and Maga cultists that makes us white people look like knuckle dragging racist fools.
