The Heroes - Joe Abercrombie

Written by Joe Abercrombie
Read by Steven Pacey
They say Black Dow’s killed more men than winter, and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand smiling by while he claws his way any higher. The orders have been given and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they’ve brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.

…ok…that’s enough…too much blood, and gore, and selfish characters, and absence of human potential…it’s all so very…red.
The download was smooth though and the audio files themselves have no problems.
Thanks to the uploader.
The book itself though…I couldn’t finish it.
First Law Trilogy was awesome. Best Served Cold was decent. Heroes is fine I suppose, but the absence of truly likeable characters and relentless violence is draining.
Abercrombie is a multifaceted writer, and bleak violence is definitely only one feather in his quill, but without characters who have more color than grey and brief glimpses of white or black, the story gets washed out in a draining fog of apathy. But, I like High Fantasy best, so maybe it’s just that.

The Heroes, one of my favs. prior comments about “too much blood” and “a draining fog of apathy” what a load of twaddle, this book is superb and continues on from Joe Abercrombies other novels, excellent stuff. KEEP IT COMING JOE ……

Steven Pacey’s voice acting is phenomenal indeed, he adds so much to the story and to the characters. Some lines were read with a different intonation giving it shades of meaning I myself wouldn’t even think about. Truly masterful reading
