Just for information - His buddy Lenin was no different - he stole over 2,000 ancient gold, silver and bronze coins from the Hermitage museum and sent them to a coin dealer buddy, Felix Schlessinger in Berlin, who sold most of them at two auctions in February 1934 and February 1935, describing them as being from “a foreign museum inventory”. The empty coin holders are still in the Hermitage, waiting for the coins to “come home”, the curator says.
