Compelling and timely, award-winning author Elizabeth Rusch’s The Twenty-One tells the gripping inside story of the ongoing landmark federal climate change lawsuit, Juliana vs. United States of America. The Twenty-One is for readers of Christina Soontornvat’s All Thirteen, fans of Steve Sheinkin’s books, and anyone interested in the environment and climate change, as well as youth activism, politics and government, and the law.
From severe flooding in Louisiana to wildfires in the Pacific Northwest to melting permafrost in Alaska, catastrophic climate events are occurring more frequently—and severely—than ever. And these events are having a direct impact on the lives (and futures) of young people and their families.
In the ongoing landmark case Juliana vs. United States, twenty-one young plaintiffs claim that the government’s support of the fossil-fuel industry is actively contributing to climate change, and that all citizens have a constitutional right to a stable climate—especially children and young adults, because they cannot vote and will inherit the problems of the future.
Elizabeth Rusch’s The Twenty-One is a gripping legal and environmental thriller that tells the story of twenty-one young people and their ongoing case against the U.S. government for denying their constitutional right to life and liberty. A rich, informative, and multifaceted book, The Twenty-One stars the young plaintiffs and their attorneys; illuminates the workings of the United States’s judicial system and the relationship between government, citizens’ rights, and the environment; and asks listeners to think deeply about the future of our planet.

Why don’t these activists go live in a forest somewhere living off the land and having no contact with anything related to fossil fuels? Because they wouldn’t survive one week. They think if they shut off fossil fuels their lives would go on in the comfort that fossil fuels provide? Their lack of critical thinking skills is amazing.
Would we all like a suitable and sustainable clean energy to replace fossil fuels? Of course we would, is there one? Not even close. Nuclear energy is the closet thing we have, but it too produces deadly by products.
We are not ready for any kind of alternate energy, they have all failed and proven they do just as much damage to the land, and cause more problems then they solve. Unless they want to start living like we did in the 1800’s, they need to clam up and come up with some real answers to how to replace fossil fuels, which they are obviously incapable of doing.
Besides, a large part of the climate change we see is caused by the Sun, which is in a vey volatile heating phase right now that will last into the end of 2025, and is expected to cause some drastic weather changes.
But I do believe we are having an effect on weather, it is still small compared to what the Sun is doing. If you bother looking at climate change of the last 1000 years you will find extremes just like we see today.
There is also the issue as to why we are having a massive amount of pollution of all kinds, its called massive overpopulation. The more people we have, the more pollution, period.
Back when i was young in the 60’s and 70’s, there were 2.5 billion people on the planet and pollution was unheard of until the population start growing exponentially, and we started being warned about effects starting in the 80’s and 90’s. Now with the populations so out of control and countries like India and China producing almost 60% of the pollution due to mass industrial pollutions to feed this growing population, we have arrived at where we are today.
