We can’t avoid the persistent questions about the meaning of life—and the nature of reality. But science is the only means of answering them. So declares philosopher Alex Rosenberg in this bracing, surprisingly sanguine take on a world without god. The science that makes us nonbelievers, he demonstrates, tells us the nature of reality, the purpose of everything, the difference between right and wrong, how the mind works, even the direction of human history.

atheist and a theist - that space makes a wee bit o’ difference.

I really don’t see how you can write a guide to reality if you insist on ignoring the last 100 years of scientific discoveries that point to universe having been deliberately designed and created.

A good alternative title (and appropriate nod to Lewis) - “Mere Scientism” - a truly bizarre shopping list, normatively speaking.
So Descartes walks into a bar & orders a drink. When he finishes it, the bartender asks him if he would like another. René replies, “No, I think not,” and disappears in a puff of logic.

@chrisxiii You’re seriously confused. You must be a bible fan! :)

Scientific discoveries??!! Really? How cute.

A properly God-fearing atheist in good standing doesn’t present any serious problem. Hardly even an offensive odour, I’m given to understand.
(Although, in these fraught times, we should keep our prudential distance. Come together by keeping apart, ‘n all dat. A communitarian message of anti-social-social-distancing. I’m Caesar, and I fully endorse this contentious message.)

@caesar: René would approve

Let’s not put Descartes before da horse (my profuse apologies!)

Ignore the last 100 years of science? Are you serious? I’ve seen you write this same thing in a number of other comment sections as if you have made it your personal quest to spread that nonsense. If anyone is ignoring 100 years of science it is you my friend. Also, if science “proves” the existence of a god, then why are the VAST majority of modern scientists atheists who have repeatedly stated that based on science, the evidence that the universe can exist WITHOUT the need of a “god” has never been greater. Also, if you believe that the big bang proves an intelligent mind behind its creation, which it ABSOLUTELY does not, it in no way proves that it is from the mind of a single creator, especially one in the form of any “god” that is worshipped here on Earth.

chrisxiii - Is that a really held belief or are you just trolling, reading the nonsense of it I assume trolling.
