  @Seriously - you might want to look up “fuzzy logic” which is how we program our own brains - except duplicated in a computer.

  Then you will find with identical twins - only 77% both have ASD.

  ASD is not a hardware fault (ergo 77% in identical twins instead of 98% or more), and not an environmental glitch - it is a software problem.
  We have a fuzzy logic problem in the head.

  It can also be cured - which I can attest as I have done so.
  But nobody believes me and nobody cares enough to test.

  77% is the answer - and I cannot understand how the experts look at it and say “It is inexplicable” instead of saying - “THERE IS THE SOLUTION!”

  yeah while they do have some valid points, the fact is vaccines have prevented soooo much more death and suffering than they cause that these peoples positions are ludicrous. people who want the option not to vaccinate should be sent somewhere else to live with all the other people happy to catch polio etc.
  if they really want to get outraged at big pharma and public health why don’t they talk about the overuse of anti-biotics (really ??? anti-biotic hand sanitizer in you bathrooms and kitchens ??) and how it is not only making anti-biotics increasingly ineffective but also making people(especially kids) extra susceptible to infections.
  or about how big pharma invest more money in drugs to make people “feel normal” than they do in drugs to help sick people. there is much less money in fixing problems than there is in stringing the problem out for as long a possible, so why would they wanna do that ?

  Dear poster, please try reading some philosophy of science, for what you have posted is exactly what it is named pseudoscience, and you are hurting everyone. All experts say it, vaccines do not cause autism, and the initial study was fraudulent.

  I am so relieved to see so many people taking this idiocy to task! Self-enforced ignorance is not only dangerous to the enforcers (and their innocent children!) but to their community. Shameful. Thanks to all the people who have educated themselves. Lots of bad things about modern life but modern medicine, most certainly including vaccines, is one of the good things-use it.

  eh? wait what? even the title of this book is scare tactics. not saying all science books are titled to reflect whats inside. but Epidemic means “a widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time” I have never heard of a Infectious Vaccine. {Opinion} it cost to much to make a vaccine.   We follow one anti-vaccine crank with another. Louise Kuo Habakus is less powerful than Grossman, but quite a bit more unhinged. Habakus won the crackpot-and-lunacy organization Age of Autism’s “person of the year” award in 2009. She won it for “rallying vaccine advocates and concerned citizens in numbers that made the difference in the New Jersey governor’s race, defeating Jon Corzine and carrying Chris Christie, the first candidate to go on record for vaccine choice, to victory” (AoA obviously entertains some delusions of grandeur). “Vaccine choice” means “vaccine denialism”, and Habakus’s stance is well covered here. She likes to talk about the vaccine gestapo.

  Her own website “Life Health Choices” is crammed with woo, strawmen and links to pseudoscience and conspiracy theories (she links to Mercola, for crying out loud). It is pretty transparently bad and would never have risen to notice were it not for the fact that certain news outlets sometimes seem to entertain an almost pathologic need to cover “both sides” of an issue regardless of whether that issue in fact has two legitimate sides.

  I think what happens is that in most children, vaccines do what they’re supposed to. They prevent serious diseases.

  But, every now and then, perhaps one in a million, there is a child with an unusual immune system who receives a vaccination when they shouldn’t and that unusual child is harmed by it. They get sick, maybe they die, because their immune system is different from normal and reacts differently. And when this happens, the parents go nuts and think vaccines are killing children. They think the experience they had is common or general and applies to everyone. And that’s why we have the anti-vaxxer movement.

  As far as the categorization of this book is concerned, however, it is indeed a book about science. A book belonging in the science section despite being crap would be nothing new — half the stuff in the science section is crap. Many “science” books contain only a smattering of research bookending what is really a big long exercise in half-baked philosophy.

  I’m sorry, but you do not get to use the label “science” as a replacement for thinking. A book merely being in the “science” section does not and should not indicate to you that it is necessarily true.
