  Gripper, how I loved reading the The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever when I was younger. Lord Foul’s Bane got me through a terrible sickness. I still retain the image of a Thomas Covenant lost in the pitch black darkness of a cave and at the end of all his wits he starts shaving. That kind of detail says more about a man than many pages of exposition.

  I don’t know if you have the last cycle, which includes:

  The Runes of the Earth (2004)
  Fatal Revenant (2007)
  Against All Things Ending (2010)
  The Last Dark (2013)

  The Last Dark was posted back in 2017, but alas it is no longer being seeded. Would love to finally read it.

  @ssafe - I’ve read half of “Runes” and found it heavy going. If you’ve read on, would you recommend them? I started reading his sf series The Gap Cycle - but, a word of warning, just like with Covenant, he sets proceedings off with a rape. He’s a little too reliant on rape as a structural device, if you ask Caesar. I was half-afraid to continue in case I was next on the rape-list.

  @ceasar, I’m a bit anti-rape myself. It was shocking, but somewhat germain to the first book. To hear he has resorted to that again is concerning.

  I have not read beyond the first two trilogies, so cannot recommend. It looks like several reviewers find the concluding quartet’s conclusion a bit underwhelming. Though I see that Mobilism still has active epubs of the final four.

  OTOH, The Wheel of Time is coming again into the world as a TV series, the GoT that existed before the GoTs. The WoT series is likely more worthy of your timeslices.

  Hey guys, thanks for the comments, it’s nice to see the books are being downloaded and appreciated. I’ve noted the requests and will see what i can get. I can’t make any promises as sometimes — as with The One Tree - a book advertised as complete and unabridged is nothing of the stort. Also I tend to grab books I myself want to listen to. I started reading the first Covenant book a long time ago but didn’t finish it, which was a rarity for me in those days. A superb writer, I’m sure, but even as a fantasy fan, Donaldson wasn’t my cup of tea.

  @ssafe - Thanx for the guidance. I’ve put off reading Wheel of Time for a long…well, too long. It’s a big undertaking. I’ve heard that it has its peaks & troughs, with Brandon Sanderson eventually appearing over the crest of the hill, like the 7th cavalry.

  I always prefer the books to adaptations. That way, you’ve got the real director’s cut in your own head. The GoT prequel (5000 years pre-!) Bloodmoon, has already started filming up in Northern Ireland. I’d say it’d be fairly wall-centric, with the Others on the prowl. Naomi Watts in the lead.

  @Gripper - Love the uploads! True, Donaldson does deter some readers - he was grimdark before it was even a thang. Leprosy, despair, unpleasant characters to warm to, the whole shebang. He can be a bit verbose, but the first three books are especially great.
  I noticed that the One Tree was abridged on Audible - I can never see the point of that!
