Walk into any racially mixed high school and you will see Black, White, and Latino youth clustered in their own groups. Is this self-segregation a problem to address or a coping strategy? Beverly Daniel Tatum, a renowned authority on the psychology of racism, argues that straight talk about our racial identities is essential if we are serious about enabling communication across racial and ethnic divides. These topics have only become more urgent as the national conversation about race is increasingly acrimonious. This fully revised edition is essential listening for anyone seeking to understand the dynamics of race in America.

Because “Birds of a feather flock together?” People like to be around people like themselves.
Only a ‘renowned authority on the psychology of racism’ has trouble under standing the nature of the world.
Such a waste of time.

@jsynapses of course. It couldn’t possibly be anything more nuanced than that. You’ve completely undermined what someone with a doctorate has spent years studying and writing about with a comment you pulled out of your arse in 30 seconds. You deserve a medal of some sort for being so clever.

Jack, I know its sarcasm but a lot of readers are going to agree with you for the wrong reasons. Have a nice day.

Yes, now that they give out doctorates with cereal packets, you should be impressed that this woman has wasted years of her life creating division between people rather than healing it.
It is, indeed, that similar folk hang out with similar folk - go to Bradford and be shocked that Pakistanis hang out with Pakistanis or Leicester and see Indians do the same.
Head to Manila and watch Americans congregate with each other, or to the UAE and see Brits do it.
Catch a flight to Sharm-El-Sheikh in the Winter and see Italians hanging out with each other, Russians too and if you land in summer? You’ll find gulf nationals all hanging out together with scarcely an Egyptain in sight.
All of these people are just racist - after all having common interests, cultures, etc. simply isn’t an excuse for wanting to spend time around other people. You have to have “diversity” to relax nowadays. It’s mandatory.
P.S. I’ve lived all over the ****ing world. This is how it really is.

Always good to see racists wasting their time trawling thru these pages to leap on any idea or commentary they are threatened by. I love watching keyboard rednecks circle their wagons imagining they’re protecting their white women from danger.

GordonCoon, Do you have a credential for that mate?

The question is -> blacks exclude whites and hispanics or whites exclude blacks and hispanics or hispanics exclude blacks and whites? No answers.

Sancho2-Did da widdle swowfwake get hims feewings hurt? Maybe you need to look into getting a hobby or spending some time with your family. That way you won’t need to waste your life away by searching sites for what MAY or MAY NOT be racist. Just because you don’t agree with someone’s opinion doesn’t ‘automatically’ make it racist. No mater what your possibly sick and/or twisted mind may think.
Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? The same reason all the rich, Jewish, dorks, jocks, nerds, whites, Asian, Hispanic, goth, poindexters, hot girls and ugly girls sit together in the cafeteria…because they are HUNGRY.

Fyi, this book has a 4.29 out of 5 Goodreads average based on 21,792 ratings.
That is extremely high for a nonfiction sociological work.
Whether it’s justified, I have no idea … Will DL and find out.
If only the commenters with their drive-by, blistering critiques would at least sample a chapter or two before they lock and load …
Most of us are open to opinions different from our own if those opinions are informed.

brassy-Mein Kampf has 4.4/5 stars on Amazon. Would you also recommend reading a few chapters of that before forming a ‘drive by’ opinion? Yeah…

@sable663: Mein Kampf has this rating because of its historical importance in understanding the origins of world war two and the holocaust, not because it’s readers consider it a model for human excellence.

Reading these comments this is why social media is a mistake for humankind. 95% of you all would not say these things face to face but can hide behind a keyboard in the safety of your place. May god have mercy on our souls…

Oh look actual scum tier human beings talking absolute smack and just going full bore racist. What an absolute surprise on this site.
July 9th, 2021
Mein Kampf was not sociology, It was a deranged man’s reasoning behind his aim to ‘purify’ a nation of an entire population of people arbitrarily targeted. Mein Kampf is highly rated on amazon for the same reason Birth Of A Nation is was rated the greatest film of all time on rotten tomatoes - fascists exist amongst us. Anyone who would deny that does not live in reality or is just lying. Note the popularity of ‘Cultural Bolshevism’ as a corrupting force in the lead up to and during the reign of the third reich. Just a coincidence i suppose that the same tired of nonsense is being rolled out again with a barely different label. But hey, fascists aren’t the smartest when they’re losing.

I am curious, do only critical people review these books, I am certain that people who believe what the book says don’t read, but just buy it and pretend to have gone through it religiously

The white man’s happiness cannot be purchased by the black man’s misery. —Frederick Douglass
It just so happens that the opposite is also true:
The black man’s happiness cannot be purchased by the white man’s misery.
Moral relativism is not the solution — moral relativism is the problem.

Lol. It’s “full bore” racist now to reject the clown school schlock “social science” of “anti-racism”? Lol and lol again.
It’s like listening to a broken record from the left, they’ve got nothing to say and they think the rest of us care about being called “racist”?
They’ve called, this week alone, trees racist, birds racist, parks racist, and more. I figure it’s more desirable to be “racist” in this context than “anti-racist” because I like birds, trees, and parks. I don’t much like fantasies dressed up as “science” though and that’s all this is.
You don’t need to read it to know that.

Racism is not dead, but it is on life support — kept alive by politicians, race hustlers and people who get a sense of superiority by denouncing others as “racists”.
—Thomas Sowell
July 9th, 2021
GordonCoon - Absolutely. What people do not understand is ALL races are racist. Everyone has some level of racism in them. Just like everyone has some level of sin in them. They just won’t admit it. Some people just come on here and post as if they are sin free. But it is OK to burn a town down, rape, murder and loot just because a cop kills a black guy pointing a gun at him. Yet say nothing when a white guy does the same thing. Why do (intelligent) white people not do this? Because we understand that if you point a gun at a cop, you are putting your own life at risk. And whoever would kill a cop would have no problem killing anyone else. Including you or your family. And if you think it is best to arrest this guy and put him in jail…well…it doesn’t work that way. Many get right back out, sometimes the same day. Or are let out in months. Just to start killing again. Moral-if you don’t want to be shot by a cop or armed citizen, don’t commit crimes.
July 9th, 2021
Am I right in thinking that the answer to the question posed is: because white people are racist. Right?… sigh.
July 9th, 2021
The Q still remains why hispanic kids are sitting away from black kids, no whytes here.

Everyone is a little bit racist and that’s FINE. We are tribal by nature. Get over it.
