Often considered one of the first ever psychological thrillers, Crime and Punishment is a gripping tale of a poverty-stricken young man in Saint Petersburg, Russia, who hatches a plan to kill someone for money. Once the deed is done, he finds himself racked with guilt, confusion and disgust for his act.
In this new recording, Will Poulter gives new life to the troubled protagonist, Rodion Raskolnikov, in a performance that will have you questioning where we draw the line between right and wrong.

(Couldn’t find whose translation was read from, but seeing as it is a public domain recording, I assume Constance Garnett.)

There are much better translations on audiobook. Some have been posted on this site, and should be available at lots of libraries

@skay: I won’t d/l this because of the above comment as only a purist would make this kind of remark. It would be nice to know which translations are better and why this is not worthy.
Thanks to the uploader.

Santobelletrist’s assumption is correct about this being Constance Garnett’s translation.
Thanks for sharing.

Most audio book versions are based on the same translation. If you insist on an alternative one, there’s the Penguin Classics edition which is translated by Oliver Ready.
One could argue that only people who master the original language have the expertise to compare and judge competing translations. In which case, why are they wasting their time with translations in the first place?

The appeal of this particular audiobook is that it is a great book read by a great actor. In the last compendium of Dostoyesky works that was posted, the uploader even asked if people were interested in the Will Poulter version. And since said uploader vanished off the site, commenters continued to ask for the Will Poulter version. So here it is. I have no control over which translation he read.
