Aph Ko conveys profound and urgently needed ideas in an accessible, engaging, and compelling format by means of drawing in examples from popular culture such as Jordon Peele’s hit 2017 film “Get Out”.

  Ko introduces the term zoological racism, which captures how racism is maintained by the human/animal binary. Within this setup, white supremacy is both anti-Black and anti-animal, and exploitation of those who are deemed “animal” is normalized. She shows us how concepts such as speciesism, intersectionality, and diversity don’t adequately encompass the complex realities of oppression and/or effective approaches to dismantle it. Rather, she advocates a multidimensional liberation theory that recognizes that systems of oppression are not just “connected”, they are composed of one another. In order to “get out” of this oppressive set up and achieve liberation for all, we need the “conceptual Big Bang” that Ko offers. This genre bending and paradigm shifting book is highly recommended for anyone who wants to be part of a truly effective social justice movement.

  The finest expression of mental illness this year, on a par with Van Gogh cutting his own ear off but it lasts for more than 4 whole hours!

  I cannot recommend this enough. It’s the kind of book that changes lives because once you’ve heard how insane it is, you’re likely to stop believing this kind of nonsense forever.
