Anxiety is a survival skill gone haywire. It happens when our brain is working so hard to protect us that it forgets to notice that the danger has passed. It feels like choking, stifling, smothering, tingling, panicking - our brains cut out and we start to make bad decisions - all normal anxiety reactions.
Dr. Faith G. Harper, author of the best-selling Unf–k Your Brain and This is Your Brain on Depression packs a ton of knowledge and help into this practical manual. She helps us understand the history and science of anxiety, realize when it’s become a serious problem, know the difference between anxiety and other conditions, and cope with it in the moment as well as addressing it long term.
This audiobook is a lifesaver for panic attacks, breaking out of flight-fight-freeze responses, similar and co-occurring conditions, and for chronic anxiety. Straightforward, funny, kind, and judgment-free, it includes a wide range of tips, exercises, and medical interventions. It’s also good for people who aren’t burdened by daily anxiety but want to cope better with the tough life situations we all face. Listen to this audiobook and breathe!

Thank you!

It doesn’t work like that. Want to get your anxiety at the source? Psychoanalysis. Lacan. Kohut. Kojeve. Freud. Even some badiou. If you want help go to the source and understand it the way they do. Otherwise your going to a vending machine, putting in time and effort, and expecting the easy fix of a product that does the job. But, again, it doesn’t work like that

@toadmanga
It doesn’t work like what? Or What doesn’t work like how?
Have you read the book?

Psychoanalysis was replaced during the cognitive revolution by CBT, REBT etc because these interventions showed better statistical results, based on a model of the mind that made more intuitive sense. Mindfulness has now entered the scene as the third wave of the cognitive revolution, examples being ACT, DBT, and MBSR. If you want to get help with anxiety follow the modern experts like the book that has been upped. Thanks for this.
Just listening to audiobooks on the subject has been proven to help. It’s known as “bibliotherapy”. I find books on mindfulness to be very helpful and have for the most part, over some years, reduced my anxiety/panic to zero.

just looking to make sense of this mess. i wake up in the morning for work and take on my responsibilities but in the back of my head I’m asking why. I know the answer at least, I do it for my family. I feel it’s all in vain. I feel society has it’s way. I’m feeling lost

@parts4benttoys - Like jmgravity’s great suggestion, mindfulness, CBT & meditation can be superbly effective & beneficial (together with bibliotherapy). You already intuitively have the correct big picture purpose in mind - your family & loved ones, their welfare & happiness - so it’s not at all in vain. That’s the vitally important stuff for us all. The modern, industrialised world & its pace seems to be a poor fit for most people, so you’re certainly not alone.
Break tasks into manageable, achievable chucks in order to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Remember that you’re a valuable, dignified human being, with networks of care & concern. Bless you & lots of love.

…and try achievable “chunks” rather than chucks!

Hear hear Caesar, you took the words right out of my keyboard, yes the modern world and the predicament we are all in is tough stuff. Don’t have to go it alone, and self-compassion goes a long way (Even though at first the thought of it made me cringe…perhaps I am dating myself but self-compassion wasn’t part of any lexicon I knew growing up). Practice makes permanent brain changes, FMRI don’t lie.
