Hailed by critics as an essential book, God’s Crucible is a bold, new interpretation of Islamic Spain and the birth of Europe from one of our greatest historians. David Levering Lewis’s narrative, filled with accounts of some of the greatest battles in world history, reveals how cosmopolitan, Muslim al-Andalus flourished—a beacon of cooperation and tolerance—while proto-Europe floundered in opposition. At the beginning of the eighth century, the Arabs brought a momentous revolution in power, religion, and culture to Dark Ages Europe. David Levering Lewis’s masterful history begins with the fall of the Persian and Roman empires, followed by the rise of the prophet Muhammad and the creation of Muslim Spain. Five centuries of engagement between the Muslim imperium and an emerging Europe followed, from the Muslim conquest of Visigoth Hispania in 711 to Latin Christendom’s declaration of unconditional warfare on the Caliphate in 1215. Lewis’s narrative, filled with accounts of some of the greatest battles in world history, reveals how cosmopolitan, Muslim al-Andalus flourished—a beacon of cooperation and tolerance between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity—while proto-Europe, defining itself in opposition to Islam, made virtues out of hereditary aristocracy, religious intolerance, perpetual war, and slavery. A cautionary tale, God’s Crucible provides a new interpretation of world-altering events whose influence remains as current as today’s headlines.

Looks like a fun, made up history. Should have been “fiction”

I am appalled at the tags this uploader moyoyugen used I hadn’t realized his rabidly racist descriptions I don’t know how to delete my above comment I certainly don’t thank him for his heinous racist trashy tags and descriptions

I think he’s equal opportunities in this regard, it’s essentially feck every1 & everything.
However, his bks are very good/promising. Although, possibly with the exception of this, given the ahistorical nature of the blurb, & further indicated by several online write-ups/reviews.
Love history, but - as sometimes happens - this is someone’s politics, not history. Major historiographical health warning here.
If you’re intrigued by the period, p’haps broaden reading beyond this partic work (Wm Chester Jordan, Thos Madden). There are also excellent lectures (from TTC, Yale & others - Profs Philip Daileader & Paul Freedman).

I can’t imagine a person dealing with books has the intellect to use such tags with uploads. Perhaps he/she could read and upload some books on Islamophobia and get some perspective. Books and reading should help people understand and respect others despite having different views. This is pure hate one can’t expect from a book lover.

Im guessing they dont know much about the Muslims history, the book would be about 5 times as thick. And the Muslims had been buying black slaves from the black slavers for over 700 years before any European ever bought a slave, and their humanity to them made anything the Americans did pale in comparison. Lets not forget that Europeans abolished slavery WAY before the Muslims did, and Africa never even do that much. Slavery between Africa and the middle east flourishes today. The problems with people who write this, they are unable to look at themselves. I agree with a lot of what is in this book, but the other side is far worse.

More fantasy than Lord of the Rings and it doesn’t even have an elf or a dragon.
